GLENN REESE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

MR. BASEBALL, AS HE IS KNOWN FOR HIS 40-PLUS YEARS OF SELFLESS DEVOTION TO SERVING AND COACHING THE YOUTH OF JOSEPHINE COUNTY. 


REESE, WHO PASSED AWAY IN 2007 WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE FOUNDATION OF YOUTH BALL IN THE BABE RUTH, AMERICAN LEGION, AND SEMI-PROFESSIONAL LEAGUES.


'G-R' WAS ANOTHER NICKNAME KNOWN OF REESE WHO ALONG WITH HIS BROTHER JAY, AND SON MIKE, LIVED AND BREATHED BASEBALL IN THE GRANTS PASS COMMUNITY OFFERING INSTRUCTION, COLLEGIATE OPPORTUNITIES, FUNDING, HOSTING AND HOUSING PLAYERS, FEEDING PLAYERS, AND TRAVELING THE WEST COAST FOR COMPETITION.


GLENN ALSO SPONSORED 'THE GRANTS PASS THUNDERBIRDS' SEMI-PRO TEAM FEATURING TOP PLAYERS FROM SOUTHERN OREGON TO EUGENE AND PORTLAND WITH SEVERAL TIMES WINNING THE CAN-AM NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.


THE GLENN REESE MEMORIAL PLAYERS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD IS AWARDED TO PLAYERS DEDICATED IN TEAM, TOWN, ACADEMICS, EXCELLENCE IN AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL, AND SHOWING AN INTEREST IN COLLEGE BASEBALL, AND BEYOND.


THERE ARE TWO MONETARY AWARDS OF $250 AWARDED IN 2019.  THE GOAL OF THE REESE FAMILY IS TO INCREASE THE AWARD TO $1,000 EACH BY 2021. 


THE RECIPIENTS NAMES APPEAR ON A PERPETUAL YEARLY PLAQUE IN THE NAME OF 'GLENN REESE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.'


REESE, ALONG WITH OTHER DEDICATED LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS AND FATHERS PROVIDED THE LABOR, MATERIALS, TIME, AND PASSION TO BUILD A BASEBALL FACILITY TWICE IN THE CITY, AND LEAD THE CHARGE TO PUT TEAMS AND PLAYERS ON THE FIELD IN YOUTH LEAGUES.


THE REESE FAMILY CONTINUES GIVING BACK TO BASEBALL AND YOUTH IN JOSEPHINE COUNTY BY ESTABLISHING THIS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD.


THE FATHER OF 10, AND MANY OTHER KIDS WHO HE SERVED AS A FATHER TO, ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR HIS FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, LEADERSHIP, AND DEDICATION TO KEEPING BASEBALL IN THE AREA ALIVE AND WELL. THAT PURPOSE AND COMMITMENT CONTINUES TODAY AND BASEBALL IN JOSEPHINE COUNTY IS THANKFUL FOR GLENN REESE AND HIS FAMILY.


THE REESE FAMILY CONGRATULATES ALL RECIPIENTS, AND OFFERS THEIR THANKS TO ALL FOR PARTICIPATING IN AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL.
